Solving Contamination-Related Porosity

Contamination porosity results from oil, grease, paint, or moisture on base metals decomposing during welding. Thorough cleaning and proper storage eliminate contamination sources.

Cleaning Protocol

  1. Remove all coatings. Grind off paint, primer, galvanizing from weld area.
  2. Degrease completely. Use acetone or appropriate solvents to remove all oils and grease.
