Preventing Porosity Through Proper Base Metal Preparation

Poor base metal preparation leaves contaminants that decompose during welding, creating porosity. Systematic cleaning and surface preparation eliminate contamination sources before welding begins.

Preparation Steps

  1. Remove mill scale and rust. Grind to bright metal in weld area and 25mm either side.
  2. Clean with appropriate solvents. Remove all oil, grease, and organic contamination.
